Erwachsenenschule Bremen

 

We are the main institution for adult education in the State of Bremen. With a staff of about 90 teachers our school is attended by about 1000 students with an average age of 24 years but there are also students who are much older than this age.

Our institution used to be an evening school for working people, who were above the usual school age. They should get the chance to achieve school diplomas which they had not been able to get when they were teenagers. Meanwhile classes are held in the morning as well as in the evening because nowadays working hours are more flexible.

We respond to the changed conditions in the working world with "blended-elearning", which means that the students attend school in a "virtual" classroom at their computer at home. They deal with about fifty percent of the curriculum in this way; the other fifty percent are covered by conventional lessons in our school at two evenings per week.

Teaching at our school is adjusted to the special needs and qualifications of students with experience of life.

Students can graduate on all levels of public secondary education up to university entrance level. In Bremen no school fees are raised, all educational aids are free of charge, some of our students study on grants!

Founded in 1947 we enjoy a long tradition as a school community with a vivid school life: full of extra-curricular activities such as arts and drama groups, all sorts of sports, photography and computer laboratory, poetry reading and discussion events.
